Here in this post you will find different festivals that are celebrated in the region of Mithila (side of Nepal — Janakpur, Tirhut, and parts of Bihar). Mithila festivals are very much hidden from the rest of the world. As mentioned in the Ramayana, every day in Mithila is a day of a new festival and tradition.

They are as follows, going by day of the week:

  1. Sunday — Raib Fasting
  2. Monday — Sombarii
  3. Tuesday — Mangal Bari
  4. Thursday — Bairaspat Bari
  5. Friday — Sukra Bari
  6. Saturday — Jai Hanuman

Sunday

On this day people celebrate god Vishnu. This has many variants according to month and year, and is also classified by what you eat during the fasting period — eating without salt or eating nothing at all.

Monday

On this day people worship Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati, by offering Gud and Chaana. This also has many variants: 16 Sombari (doing only 16 consecutive Sombaris of each week), 6 months, 1.25 years, etc., according to one's desire.
